Fapt divers - 1, 2, 3...

Toate trei au apărut în presă ieri.

Primul:

Arizona Police Asked to Confiscate Michael Jackson’s Remaining Giraffes After Two Die
By Hollie McKay - FOXNews.com

Updated January 12, 2010

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has sent a request to Page, Ariz., Police Chief Charlie Dennis to immediately confiscate two surviving giraffes that previously belonged to the late Michael Jackson.

The request comes following the news that the other two giraffes acquired from Jackson’s estate died in the past seven weeks.

“PETA recently learned that two of the giraffes have died and that the possible cause of death of at least one of the animals was improper feeding and/or exposure to cold temperatures,” a rep from the organization told Pop Tarts. “If this is true, the Hancocks appear to be in violation of state cruelty-to-animals law, and the remaining two giraffes must be removed as soon as possible.”

The giraffes have been on city property since 2007 after they were acquired from Neverland Estate by Tom and Freddie Hancock of the Voices of the Wild Foundation, Inc., which operates Banjoko Wildlife Preserve in Page, Ariz. where the animals are kept.

In a letter to Dennis, PETA urges the police chief to “thoroughly investigate this situation and if applicable, pursue charges against the Hancocks for the deaths of two giraffes and, most importantly, take immediate action to protect the remaining giraffes by confiscating the animals and relocating them to a facility that can provide them with appropriate care.”
Freddie Hancock confirmed the death of the two giraffes but said allegations of possible neglect against them have absolutely no standing.

“Those animals are well taken care of. They are not neglected. They are not abused. They are in appropriate facilities. The facilities have been inspected by USDA and the Health Department. There is absolutely no basis for any of these allegations,” she said. “The animals are in a safe environment. They have somebody with them 24/7. They are being taken care of properly. These animals were part of our family.”

Hancock also said that PETA’s urge for an investigation was unnecessary as they had already called the police themselves to look into the unexpected deaths of the two giraffes.

At this point, cause of death is unknown.

“We're still investigating to see if there is a crime or that the giraffes are in danger. Right now we're still working on getting in touch with the state vet of Arizona and discussing with them the situation,” Police Chief Charlie Dennis told Pop Tarts. “PETA was talking about some possible animal cruelty issues or poor living conditions and that's what we're looking at. We have been on the scene there during our initial investigation when we were notified that one of the giraffes had died. We're gathering our evidence as of right now. There is no action that has been taken to remove the giraffes but we are looking and talking to the resources that we have to make sure we can make the right decision on that."

Even if there is no evidence to suggest foul play or animal neglect, it looks lie MJ’s former pets will be moved again.

After acquiring the animals in 2007, the Hancocks entered into a lease agreement to house the animals on city property but are now facing eviction, a ruling Arizona Superior Court has upheld. Freddie Hancock said that the lease required that the group provide $100,000 bond or irrevocable letter of credit. The group provided $100,000 irrevocable letter of credit but the city summarily rejected it. The group attempted to get $100,000 bond but the city would not provide the bond form required by the sureties, she said

“We’re done fighting over this and spending money that should be going to the animals. We don’t want to be here,” Hancock said, adding that they are currently looking into “several different alternatives” to house the giraffes where the giraffes will be welcome and safe from harm.”

Calif. Court Overturns Award in Jackson Taping
Calif. appeals court overturns $20 million award over secret taping of Michael Jackson
LOS ANGELES January 12, 2010 (AP)

An appellate court on Monday overturned a $20 million award against a defunct charter jet company for secretly videotaping Michael Jackson and his attorneys during a 2003 flight.

The 2nd District Court of Appeal ruled the amount was excessive, and XtraJet and its owner Jeffrey Borer shouldn't have to pay it to attorneys Mark Geragos and Pat Harris.

"The amount awarded to the plaintiffs was so great that it shocks the conscience," the panel wrote in its ruling.

The case was sent back to the trial judge who last March found in favor of the two lawyers.

The panel said a new trial could occur on damages alone unless Geragos and Harris would share a reduced award of $750,000.

Brian Kabateck, an attorney representing Geragos, said he was leaning heavily toward a new trial.

"The judges acknowledge the behavior here was reprehensible," Kabateck said.

Borer and an associate pleaded guilty to conspiracy two years ago for videotaping Jackson and his lawyers as they flew to the pop star's surrender on molestation charges. A jury later acquitted Jackson of 14 charges in the case.

Superior Court Judge Soussan Bruguera ordered XtraJet and Borer to pay the amount for invading the privacy of Geragos and Harris in order to sell the video of Jackson to the media.

The appellate court noted in its ruling that Geragos and Harris weren't severely affected by the contents of the tape because it was never publicly released and didn't contain any audio that would violate attorney-client privilege.

XtraJet attorney Lloyd Kirschbaum was pleased with the ruling.

"It's outstanding," he said. "You can't be damaged by a tape no one has seen."

Geragos, Harris and Jackson filed the invasion-of-privacy suit against Borer and XtraJet in November 2003. Jackson dropped out as a plaintiff in April 2005.

Brooke Shields waiting for resurrection

Brooke Shields broke down during her tribute speech to Michael Jackson at his memorial service because she didn't know his coffin was going to be there.

Brooke Shields expected Michael Jackson to jump out of his coffin at his memorial service.

The actress fought hard to contain her grief when she gave an emotional speech at the public event held at the Los Angeles Staples Center to commemorate the late 'Thriller' singer's life following his death from acute Propofol intoxication last June.

She said: "Did you see me shaking? Well, they didn't tell us that the coffin was going to be there.

"I thought - because there was a fantasy moment in my head - that he was going to jump out and start the concert."

Brooke, 44 - who befriended Michael when she was 13 - also revealed she hadn't been in touch with the 'King of Pop' for a long time before his death, but often wanted to call him and offer her help.

She added: "I had not only not spoken to him, I hadn't seen him in years."

When asked if she had wanted to call him to offer her help, she told US TV show 'Access Hollywood': "I did that, you know, 20 years ago. I mean... the rhetoric didn't change, you know, I did that way back when, but anyway, I did my best."

The 'Lipstick Jungle' star was asked by Michael's mother Katherine to give a speech at the service, but she ignored the words she was asked to deliver in favour of giving a more personal account of their friendship during her seven-minute address.

She explained: "They had written me out something. But I wrote my own thing and just had to do my own thing. I felt honored to be a part of it."
