Michael is the same way. If you pay close attention to the way Michael sings (or anyone for that matter) you will realize that his octave range varies from very high to really low. Michael's natural speaking voice is very moderate to low. Males have two sets of vocal cords that allow men to speak in various ranges.
Katherine has a soft speaking voice that was transferred to each of her children, but the males do have a low speaking voice regardless of how they do on interviews and such.
